Ride to the Royal Docks

Well Bean Cafe

This ride to the Royal Docks is one of our most popular rides, so we will be doing it again on Saturday Sep 23rd.

On this date, Southwark Cyclists have chosen not to take up their 9.30am ride starting slot at the Southwark Needle, we can use this ourselves. We have to make sure we don't start our rides at the Southwark Needle, when Southwark Cyclists is doing this, otherwise we won't be able find each other.

The 19 mile route for this ride can be downloaded from here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44467579

Major works are taking place to build the Silvertown Tunnel, so we will have to navigate through these. This video shows what the tunnel will look like when it is finished:

The new very wide Boord Street cycle bridge over the Blackwall Tunnel Southern Approach is now open and we will be using it.

The Thames Path out to the Woolwich Ferry has now been reinstated and is much wider than it was.

Only one ferry is operating at Woolwich and it doesn't run at the weekends, so we will have to use the Woolwich Foot Tunnel to reach the north bank of the Thames. The lifts on the north side of the crossing are not working so we will have to carry our bikes up the steps.

The Thames Path to the east of the northern end of the Woolwich Foot Tunnel is open again, so we can use this.

We will stop for a mid-ride coffee break at the Well Bean Café, 1-2 Upper Dock Walk, London E16 2GU. The ride will finish at the Greenwich Foot Tunnel.
