Christmas Day Ride 2023

Old Curiosity Shop

On Christmas Day it is customary for cyclists from London's many boroughs (and even beyond!) to assemble at the Southwark Needle at 11am to do a cycle tour of some of London's lesser-known but still iconic sites.

These include the "Mother Goose" Church, the French Ordinary Court Tunnel, Beehive Passage, Leadenhall Market, Jamaica Wine House, the Old Curiosity Shop, the Upside-down Globe, Seven Dials and, although not lesser-known, The Mall.

This is a ride which, about 9 years ago before the Covid crisis, was very popular:

Southwark Needle

It owes its existence to Barry Mason, who inaugurated it in 2001. Barry Mason is well known for being the person who transformed Southwark Cyclists into the most active and exciting of all the LCC borough groups.

When we get to Edgware Road, we stop off for a very reasonably priced Christmas Day Lunch at one of the Lebanese restaurants, which are open as normal on Christmas Day.

This is, of course, is AGM season for cycling groups. The Dog & Bell Crew is no exception. We can talk about what rides the Dog & Bell Crew organised in 2023 and we can discuss what rides we want to see happening in 2024.

The 9 mile route can be downloaded from here: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44864435

Everyone welcome. You don’t have to be a member of British Cycling to attend - but it helps!
